[OPEN] Here There Be A Dragon
Who: Alacruun and OPEN
What: A new arrival gets used to everything.
Where: Melai Temple and surroundings.
When: Shortly after the new batch of arrivals shows up.
Warnings/Notes: Dragon.
Alacruun is not all that pleased by this development. There's something to be said for being (relatively) free and no longer stuck hopping a ride in someone else's body or having to communicate via divination, but he's also on another world, being asked to help save it. Which isn't entirely his first choice of activities, but if it will prevent damage to the world he lives in, it's worthwhile in the end. He can put aside his plans - he's been waiting for eons already, he can wait a little longer - and cooperate. For now.
Not that he's fond of their surroundings, either. The dragon - horse-sized, black scales, horns, and yellow-green eyes - has set up camp on the front steps for the temple, keeping a weather eye on the surrounding forest. He's determined that he's not going to be a humanoid if he doesn't have to be - at least not for now - and even if they've stripped him of his power, he's going to enjoy the freedom to stretch his draconic limbs and just lounge.
At least for a little while. Even if for whatever reason, there's a creeping feeling of irritation that keeps nagging at him. He isn't sure why. There's nothing that he can't really compartmentalize, so - what's bothering him?
He almost looks asleep at first glance, half blocking the front steps, large head resting on his forepaws. However, both eyes are open in tiny slits, just exposing the dark of his pupils. Anyone who wants to come up the stairs is going to have to go around him or over him.
Maybe it's a social experiment.

Wait, you can talk? He can talk. [The latter sentence is said with a quick glance to Toothless before he returns his attention to Alacruun.]
You can talk.
[This is followed by a surprised, questioning growl from Toothless. Seriously, what the Hel?]
no subject
Of course I can talk. Dragons are intelligent, thinking creatures. Not dumb beasts.
[ He glances at Toothless. ]
You mean you can't?
[ That question is clearly directed at the other dragon. ]
The human hasn't enchanted you, has he? Because if he has, I'll happily bite his head off.

[When Alacruun makes his offer, Toothless curls protectively around Hiccup, and snarls with teeth bared. Nobody threatens his rider, especially other dragons.]
Nobody's enchanting anybody. I can't even do magic. If I could, I certainly wouldn't do it to him. Toothless is my friend. Hel, he's practically my brother.
no subject
Well, I thought it best to check. Most dragons where I'm from can speak and are usually quite articulate. And most of them don't let humans ride around on them, either...
[ He eyes Hiccup with a rather dubious express. ]
If you both insist so stringently, I believe you. You'll forgive my caution, won't you ? Imagine if you thought one of your friends was being ensorcelled against their will.

[Hiccup tries to draw on the chiefly etiquette his father had managed to instill in him. The dragon is clearly prideful, not that Hiccup had met all that many dragons who weren't, so politeness would go a long way towards keeping the peace.]
I believe introduction are in order. My name is Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, Chief of the village of Berk. My friend here is Toothless, our Alpha.
{Toothless preens a bit, and his false tail-fin comes into clearer view. Hiccup's not sure if he wants to explain how that came about, even if he will when asked. Telling his mother about it had been hard enough. Explaining it to a dragon that had just threatened to bite his head off would be infinitely more difficult.]
no subject
[ The term is rather confusing to him. Alacruun seems to frown for a moment as he considers the word and the title that Hiccup has thrown at him. ]
What does that mean?
[ He's beginning to suspect that this dragon is not going to be any kind of equal. Or even on the same level as he is. What sort of dragon allows himself to be some kind of beast of burden? ]
My name is Alacruun.
