He sees through the linguistic trickery being brought to bear against him. Mostly because that's the kind of thing he'd say or use against someone to tie their heads into knots.

On the other hand, Tim does imply a certain amount of respect in his tone and he seems to be apologetic. So Alacruun decides to let it slide - at least for now. Then again, he can't do much to him.
