THE SQUAD DOES AN INTRO: GROUP MEET UP - [modplot] [event] [free-for-all]

THE SQUAD DOES AN INTRO: GROUP MEET UP

OOC POST

The Green's binding spell finally works out its kinks and the entire group is teleported into the same area in the center of the city, near the statues of the Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and Scarecrow.

Everyone in the group feels a tingling sensation as the magic sets in place and binds them. Anyone that tries to leave will now find themselves being teleported back if they wander too far. The group will have to try to stay together when it moves now.

They have a little bit of time to figure things out.

OOC INFO

Post in actionspam format. Plots and mod-run events in the game are meant to be in actionspam format to keep a brisk pace.

Free-for-all Post. This event will be in "free-for-all" format, meaning that threadhopping is encouraged and that threading should be treated in the same conversational way as network posts.

By now, the language magic should be fully in place. By now, everyone should have magically learned Sylvaen so that everyone can speak it fluently and understand each other.

What are those?

[Hiccup stares at the lightsabers with naked curiousity, itching to figure out what they are, what they do, and how he could recreate them.]

Sorry, I'm kind of a blacksmith and inventor, and I've never seen anything like those before.

They're lightsabers. Plasma blades.

[And they are basically pretty metal clubs right now. Revan sighs.]

And they're not working.

...you're telling me you can make plasma into a blade. You have to be pulling my leg. The real one, not the peg-leg.

complete bullshit, but it's canon bullshit

[personal profile] therevanchist 2018-03-14 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
The emitter generates a containment field that creates a recirculating closed circuit.

[Revan retrieves the lightsaber she just put back on her belt and taps a finger against the unlit business end where the blade emitter is set.]

...I know what those words mean, but I have no idea how they go together.

[Hiccup was smart, but what Revan had just said was completely outside his frame of reference.]

The emitter pulls from the power cell to create a magnetic field that keeps the plasma from dispersing. It circulates from the emitter to the blade tip and back so the power can be recaptured. It's not break-even, but it's close.

[Revan doesn't really have a frame of reference for pre-spaceflight societies. The Republic has existed for 20,000 years, and while they do occasionally stumble over a world that fell out of contact and backslid technologically, by and large even people who live simply like the Jedi are supposed to are surrounded by high technology at all times...meaning she thinks Hiccup has a solid high school physics knowledge of electricity and magnetism.]

So, if I've got this right, you're using stored lightning to create some kind of powerful magnet, and the magnet holds the plasma in shape.

[It wasn't hard for him to equate the power creating the field with electricity. The metal perches they'd scrapped after the incident where he'd figured out lightning was attracted to metal had been rather magnetic afterwards.]

It's not magic, but it's so far beyond my ability to understand right now that it might as well be. That's kind of daunting.

[Blink. That wasn't where she was expecting this to go.]

Lighting is electricity, yes. And electricity and magnetism are the same thing. The forces arising from the interaction of charged particles...?

[Revan says it like she's prompting him on something he ought to remember.]

I don't know?

Look, maybe you're from some place where everyone's worked all this stuff out, but I'm not. Our most advanced machines are made of pulleys, springs, levers, wheels, and gears. Most of which I had to design myself.

You...don't have hyperdrive?

[Why yes, any technological ceiling lower than faster-than-light travel is borderline incomprehensible.

...Wait, judging by this conversation, he probably doesn't know what a hyperdrive is.]

I mean, your people don't travel between stars?

[Revan's not being condescending. She's genuinely taken aback.]
wherenoonegoes: (Hiccup hmm)

[personal profile] wherenoonegoes 2018-03-14 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I can safely say we don't. My people travel on boats. In water. Also on dragonback, but that's more of an in the last five years development
therevanchist: (•054)

[personal profile] therevanchist 2018-03-14 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
...Huh.

[Totally unfazed by the dragon thing, though.]

Maybe you're a lost colony. One of those turns up every few centuries.

[Revan hasn't twigged to the multiverse yet. Her own universe is so vast and varied she has no reason to.]

If we are, it might explain the stories about Yggdrasil and the 9 worlds.
therevanchist: (•027)

[personal profile] therevanchist 2018-03-15 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yggdrasil?

[Revan cocks her head, inviting him to continue as her insatiable curiosity strikes again.]
wherenoonegoes: (Hiccup hmm)

[personal profile] wherenoonegoes 2018-03-17 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
The World Tree. It's, according to the Eddas, a giant ash tree connecting a set of at least nine worlds. Midgard, which is where humans and dragons live; Asgard, where most of the gods and those who die in battle live; Vanaheim, where nearly all the rest of gods live; Alfheim, home of the elves; Svartalfheim, home of the dwarves; Jotunheim, the homeworld of the giants; Muspelheim and Niflheim, the worlds of fire and ice respectively; and Helheim, which is ruled over by the goddess Hel and is where everyone else goes when they die.

[Hiccup pauses for a few moments]

Also there's a giant eagle at the top of the tree and a giant dragon under it, and a squirrel runs up and down the tree passing insulting messages between them because it's a jerk.

It's not just her, the aliens do it where I'm from too.
